Introducing CropLife Taiwan
Meet CropLife Asia’s latest member association

Launching of CropLife Taiwan

Dr Ying Yeh, Deputy Director General of  the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture (left), together with Dr Bao-ji Chen, Dean of College of Bio-Science and Agriculture, National Taiwan University, inaugurate CropLife Taiwan, R.O.C at Taipei 101 on 02 August 2006.

CropLife Taiwan, R.O.C., is born today as the youngest member of the CropLife Asia family.

Now that governmental agencies are running short of resources and aid to farmers in this post-WTO era, CropLife Taiwan takes on the role of a new energy house for the farming industry.

“I look forward to seeing the accomplishment of CropLife Taiwan’s mission and great work carried out in the field with farmers. I expect a positive return from such work with farmers,” said Annette Lu, Vice President of Republic of China.

Protecting farmers' crops
The new Taiwanese association aims to contribute to sustainable agriculture by upgrading farming know-how. Together with CropLife Asia, CropLife Taiwan will help farmers prevent pest outbreaks by introducing integrated pest management (IPM) techniques—a combination of cultural, chemical and biological controls, including biotechnology. IPM will also help improve farming productivity, raise the market value of crops, and increase protection for consumers.

Better products for society
Speeding up the introduction of new products and formulations to benefit farmers, consumers and the environment is an important goal of CropLife Taiwan. Novel compounds with minimal environmental footprint, new formulations that reduce farmers’ exposure and improve consumer safety, biotechnology products that improve yields all add value to farmers and society.

Better regulation
CropLife Taiwan will also offer free training for civil servants. This will help update local regulatory procedures to benefit from the latest technological development and managerial concepts on crop protection chemicals. The new association will even facilitate dialogue on issues such as residue limits on crops and notarisation of registration documents, with the aim of giving the Taiwanese government a voice at the negotiation table.
